The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program at Palm Beach Atlantic University seeks to foster the development of independent clinical practitioners with an in-depth, evidence-based knowledge of the pharmaceutical care and management of patients with a variety of chronic disease states presenting in a variety of ambulatory settings.
This program provides the unique opportunity to strengthen your patient care skills in a Veteran’s Affairs (VA) healthcare setting as well as in various community and faculty run clinics in Palm Beach County. You will spend approximately half of your time within the primary care and specialty clinics of the VA Health System. In addition to the required experiences, the resident will participate in elective experiences, which can occur within the VA Health System or at other local clinics.
You will also be provided opportunities for involvement in research, administration and project management, as well as academia. When you complete our program, you will be prepared to tackle ambulatory care pharmacy through a variety of lenses in both the public and private sectors, making you well-equipped to be competitive in the rapidly changing healthcare arena. Additionally, you are given an instructor of pharmacy practice appointment within the Gregory School of Pharmacy and are given the option to participate in a teaching and learning curriculum.
Purpose
The PGY2 pharmacy residency program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in the specialized practice area.
Learning Experiences
Resident learning experiences are conducted in block or longitudinal format. Residents may choose up to three elective blocks in addition to completion of required learning experiences.
